Curriculum

- Reading is the ticket to knowledge
- English is the ticket to success
- Math is the ticket to financial security
- Provide each student with all his/her textbooks for the year
- Focus on assimilating ESL students into the American culture
- Teach above and beyond NCLB requirements.
- Develop students who can gain acceptance into Virginia’s college system
- Develop students with the confidence to enter the Virginia work force
- Assure that programs parents want are available
- Offer AP and IB programs to students who want them
- Assure that vocational programs are available to students who desire to take Work Force programs
- Assure that creative arts and music programs are available
- Enhance magnet programs
- Support use of technology as a teaching tool: for example, electronic field trips
Overcrowding
- Reduce the number of trailer classrooms
- Eliminate single-wide trailer classrooms
- Reduce student class size
- Set the goal of no more than 90% capacity for each school
- Require that all proffers address building or contributing to schools
Healthy Students
- Promote neighborhood schools so students can walk or ride bikes to school
- Require Gym Classes with exercise programs
- Make Nurses available all schools
- Serve nutritious and delicious lunches that students like
- Teach students that good habits lead to healthy lives
Security
- Assure physical safety
- Assure drug-free school zones
- Assure safety from bullies
Teachers & Staff
- Hire and retain good, qualified teachers
- Develop incentives to promote retention
- Support staff develop innovations such as distance learning
- Work with PWEA and other organizations to support teachers in the classroom
Truancy
- Work with the schools, local organizations such as CASA, and the local police to reduce truancy
